Srivari Metlu.....Other foot way to Tirumala!!
Tirumala, abode of Sri Venkateshwara Swamy (Balaji), world largest pilgrimage centre. It is located 3,200 feet (980 m) above sea level. The seven peaks of Seshachala range represent the hood of Adisesha and are known as Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrushabadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri.
The most regular way to climb the tirumala hills is the Alipiri foot way. Every day thousands of devotees use this path to reach the holy hill. It is of 9 km in length with well laid steps and shelters. It takes approximately 3 - 4 hrs to climb 3350 steps and few kilometers of walk.
But for those who want to climb the tirumala hill with a new route and with lesser step count, here is a foot way called as a "SRIVARI METLU".
Srivari Metlu has only 2500 steps and does not include any walk. It takes around 1hr to 1.5 hr to climb those steps. These steps are laid much easier way than the alipiri way.
How to reach:
1. Free TTD buses run from tirupati bus stand to Srivari metlu.
2. If you want to take an autorickshaw, they will charge you Rs.250 to Rs.350 from tirupati bus stand to Srivari metlu.
3. If you want to use RTC ( not the free bus ), then you can take the Peeleru bus from Tirupati bus stand, get down at Srinivasa Mangapuram and there you can take share autorickshaws to srivari metlu. This way its economical.
Starting Point:
The below picture is the starting point of Srivari Metlu.
The climbing starts with a pray at the first step asking Lord Balaji to bless with energy to climb hill easily. The devotees all the way sing "Govinda Hari Govinda.....Gokula Nandana Govinda" which is written on either sides of shelter pillars.
Drinking water taps are set for every 50 steps here so no need to carry bottles of bottles of water. Through out the way good lighting and Fiber Shelter is provided. Announcements and being made using speakers to update us with timings of temple, darshan tickets issuing and devotional songs.
Even here you can find devotees applying Haldi, Kumkum and Camphor for every step. It takes almost 8 hrs easily applying and climbing steps. Hats off to all those devotees with such patience and devotion.
People of different ages climb the steps, even the infants you just learned to crawl :). You can witness people with good age are taking rest for very few step climbing but you do not surprise, if you see senior citizens and kids climbing steps faster with no breaks. Its all his blessing that make the devotee walk towards him quickly. So the ultimate formula here is to pray lord with "Govinda Hari Govinda".
Above picture is a view covering around 1800 steps. The blue coloured curve is the shelter of the footpath.
On the way you can find Sri Lakmana Sametha Seetha RamaChandra Swamy idols sculptured on stones.
One can climb 50 steps in a lot and take rest for minute and then do the same for every 50 steps. Lets not forget reciting "Govinda Hari Govinda". Because that has the power which takes us closer to the lord.
In the alipiri way you can find lots of deers welcoming aboard. Here you find guys welcoming but little smaller in size like Jalaga, ants etc :) But those are not going to trouble you.
Lets all pray lord to give courage and bless us with good darshan and sevas.
It is not you coming to Tirumala, it is the lord who called you to see him.
